چکیده

A preliminary theory is established for the stability of e visooelastio leyer sandwiched in an infinitely extended medium of another visooelastio materiel when s compressive force is acting in a direction parallel with the layer. The instability is menifested by e folding of the layer. It is shown that in general there exists e lower and & higher critical load between which folding occurs at a finite rate with a dominant wavelength. This is the wavelength whose amplitude increases at the fastest rate. Special ceses are also discussed in more detail such es that of e purely viscous layer in a viscous fluid, an elastic lityer in e viscous fluid, e viscous layer in en elastic medium, end of two Maxwell materials. Results indicate that the ratio of the relaxation times of the two materials is an important parameter.

On the Instability and Folding Deformation of a layered Viscoelastic Medium in Compression

When a layer of material embedded in an infinite medium is subject to a comfiression parallel with the layer an instability tends to develofi which manifests itself in the folding of the layer. This phenomenon is examined here for the general case where the layer and the surrounding medium are both viscoelastic. This problem which was examined in preliminary form in an earlier publication [6]t ...

On the Folding of a Viscoelastic Medium with Adhering Layer under Compressive Initial Stress*

The exact solution is given for the folding by compression of a viscoelastic layer embedded in a viscoelastic medium, under the assumption that there is perfect adherence between layer and medium. This solution agrees closely with the earlier result obtained by Biot which was based on the assumption that layer and medium could slip over each other. In a previous publication, Biot [l] has discus...

INsTABILITY OF A CONTINUOUSLY INHOMOGENEOUS VISCOELASTIC HALF-SPACE UNDER INITIAL STRESS

Surface folding due to instability is analyzed for continuously inhomogeneous halfspace of viscoelastic properties. The medium is under the combined action of a horizontal compression and gravity. The material is of uniform density. Its viscoelastic properties vary exponentially with depth so that it degenerates into a fluid at large depth. It is assumed that the deformations verify the thermod...

Folding of a Layered Viscoelastic Medium Derived from an Exact Stability Theory of a Continuum under Initial Stress*

A layer of viscoelastic material embedded in an infinite medium also viscoelastic tends to fold through instability when the system is compressed in a direction parallel with the layer. This phenomenon which was treated previously by using an approximate plate theory, [l, 21, is analyzed here by using an exact theory for the deformation of a continuum under prestress [3, 4, 5, 61. The effect of...

Nonlocal Vibration Behavior of a Viscoelastic SLGS Embedded on Visco- Pasternak Foundation Under Magnetic Field

This paper is concerned with the surface and small scale effects on transverse vibration of a viscoelastic single-layered graphene sheet (SLGS) subjected to an in-plane magnetic field. The SLGS is surrounded by an elastic medium which is simulated as Visco-Pasternak foundation. In order to investigate the small scale effects, the nonlocal elasticity theory is employed due to its simplicity and ...
